Caritas’s mission is to unite people with a purpose to preserve affordable communities that uplift and empower our residents. To accomplish this, Caritas supports several programs throughout its 33 communities and to its over 15,000 residents. These programs provide educational opportunities, financial assistance, and promote community. Here are some 2024 highlights:
Financial Assistance
At Caritas, we understand that residents experience unexpected financial hardships and need temporary financial aid to help them through a difficult time. This is why we created our rental, maintenance, and emergency food programs and in 2024, we granted $47,589 in financial assistance to help our residents in their times of need.
Caritas Reads! Program
Caritas Reads! promotes literacy and reading throughout our communities. We sponsor literacy events, a senior book club program, and a summer reading program for K-12 residents where each participant chooses their own book and upon finishing it and submitting a book report, they can keep receiving free books until the end of the program. This summer, we distributed 1,441 books to 162 youth residents.
Scholarship Program
Caritas grants qualifying residents up to $1500 to further their education and get them one step closer to achieving their academic dreams. Several recipients have attended Antelope Valley College, CSU Fullerton, and UC Irvine, and have studied nursing, psychology, and business. In 2024, Caritas awarded 28 residents with $30,150 in scholarships.
Community Events
2024 was full of resident events! Our communities hosted guest speakers, family activities, summer parties and BBQs in addition to celebrating the holiday with events throughout November and December. In addition, our Caritas team hosted Town Hall Meetings where residents could meet with Caritas and ask questions.
We look forward to providing these and more programs in 2025!
